Agate Falls
Agate Falls are located on the Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River in
Ontonagon County. Right on M-28, at Joseph. F. Oravec Roadside Park four miles west of Trout Creek.
you can park and walk at short trail to overlook the falls.
The river is about 80 feet wide as it cascades 80 feet over a series of shelves.
Alder Falls
Alder Falls plunges about 30 feet from a rock outcrop jutting out of
the creek and continues its cascade over the rocks lining the river bed.
The falls span about 15 feet across at its widest section. From Big Bay,
go south on County Road 550, cross the bridge over Alder Creek and drive
1/4 mile to Alder Creek Truck Trail. There isn't a trail/road sign here.
Turn right onto this trail road. Stay to the left where the road forks.
Drive a short distance, .7 miles and you'll see a small sign on the right
which says "No motorized vehicles or litter please". The slope leading to Alder Creek Falls is right there.
Big Pup Creek Falls
Big Pup Creek falls are located on County Road 510, 10.3 miles from the
550/510 intersection, 2 miles past the Yellow Dog Hills Falls. From Big
Bay, travel south on County Road 550 about 1.8 miles to County Road 510.
Turn right onto County Road 510. From the bridge across Yellow Dog River
where Yellow Dog Hills falls are accessed, which is 8.3 miles from the 55
0/510 intersection, travel south another 2 miles and you will see the falls
to the left, or east, side of the road about 60 yards.
Black River Falls
Black River Falls is a quick hike along a scenic path bordered by
majestic pine trees. The Black River plunges 20 feet creating an
impressive waterfall which can be viewed from an island at the center
of the river which is easily crossed by a foot bridge. The falls are
located 8 miles southwest of Ishpeming. Drive just west of Ishpeming,
on US-41, (West Ishpeming Township). You'll come to a single blinking
light with a Ford dealership on the corner. This is Lake Shore Drive.
Turn left (south). Reset your trip meter now. Drive about 1.2 miles.
You'll see a sign that says "National Mine". Turn right (south) after
this sign. You'll be on Washington Street now. Drive down Washington
Street 1.1 miles until you come to a 4-way stop. This cross- road is
County Road 581 also known as Saginaw Street. Turn right (west) onto
Saginaw/County Road 581 and go approximately 8.1 miles where you'll
see two signs which say "Island Lake Club" and "Falls". Make a right
here (west). Go approximately .6 of a mile to a fork in the road.
Take the right fork and drive about .3 of a mile which is CO RD CCP
and you'll see a sign that says "Falls". Turn right here, and go
to the end where you'll see a parking area identified by a row of stones. The trail to Black River Falls is to the right of the parking area.
Dead River Falls
The Dead River Falls are viewed from the top of a gorge where the water
drops only a few feet. A variety of bushes and underbrush keeps this
little waterfall well hidden from view. Dead River Falls are 3 miles
northwest of Marquette. Heading west of Marquette on US-41/M-28, turn
right on Wright Street (the first street west of the Westwood Mall).
Go about 1/2 a mile and turn left onto Forestville Road. Drive about 2.5
miles, pass over a bridge, and park at the power house area. Behind the
powerhouse, follow the electrical wires up a hill. About 100 yards past
the end of this hill is a section of aqueduct with the painted words
"falls" and an arrow to the left pointing the way. Follow that trail to
the river. Note: Trail is very steep so be careful.
Little Garlic Falls
Little Garlic Falls are 11 miles north of Marquette. From downtown
Marquette, head north on Front Street until it dead ends on Fair Avenue
and turn left. Go two blocks and turn right on Presque Isle Avenue to
Wright Street at the third blinking yellow. Turn left on Wright Street.
Turn right, heading north, onto Sugar Loaf Avenue, then go a short distance
to where Sugar Loaf 'T's" which is Hawley Rd., also known as County Road 550
Go left. Drive about 12 miles to Little Garlic River, pass over that, and you'll
see a road/trail to the left about .2 a mile. Turn in here, and go about
2 1/2 miles where you'll see a trail to the left. (If you come to a bridge,
you've gone too far. Double back and take the first right). Little Garlic
Falls are in about 1/2 mile from this point, and it's best to park and walk
the 1/2 mile as the road is rough with deep ruts.
Morgan Falls
Morgan Falls are formed by a series of drops, six feet at its highest, as the
water tumbles over the rocks lining the stream bed. The pattern continues for
about 100 feet before the stream meanders slowly on its way. Morgan Falls are
3 1/2 miles southwest of Marquette. Heading west on US-41/M-28 turn south on
County Road 492, across from the Marquette Mall (the building on the corner
will have a large Budweiser mural on the side of it). After about 2 blocks
the road forks, take the right fork and continue on County Road 492 approximately
3.5 miles to Morgan Meadow Drive. Turn left, heading south, on Morgan Meadow
Drive. Cross Meadow Creek, and turn left, heading east, onto the first trail
road. There will be a sign which says "Dumping of refuse not permitted".
Go approximately another .9 of a mile to where the creek again crosses under
the road. Just past this point is a small parking area on the right. The trail
to the falls is across from here.
Reany Falls
Reany Falls is a small but fast moving waterfall forming a series of rapids as
it descends over the rocks jutting out of Reany Creek. Reany Falls are 5
miles northwest of Marquette. Heading west from Marquette on US-41/M-28,
turn right onto Wright Street which is the first street west of the Westwood
Mall. Go about 1/2 a mile and turn left onto Forestville Road, Drive about 2
1/2 miles, pass over a bridge where you will see the falls on the right, and
park at the power house area. Walk back along Forestville Road to the falls
on the left.
Slate River Falls
The slate river drop feet at these falls.
From US-41 entering L'Anse from the south turn right onto Broad Street and
go about .6 miles to the blinker light on Main Street. Take Main Street to
the right (east) and go about 11 miles to the Slate River (Main Street will
turn into Skanee Road). Turn right (south) onto the first trail road past
the river, which is marked with a sign to the Falls, and park.

Unnamed & Carp River Falls
Unnamed Falls presents a spectacular view where you will be greeted with the
roar of the water as it plunges twenty feet into Morgan Creek below. From
Unnamed Falls, it is just a short hike to Carp River Falls. This waterfall
consists of two consecutive ten foot drops pouring rapidly over the rock bed.
Carp River Falls and Unnamed Falls are located 2 1/2 miles southwest of
Marquette. 4-wheel drive required. Heading east on US-41/M-28, stay to the
right where the highway divides at the end of the bypass. Head south and
turn right at the first signal light which is Genesee Street. Go one block
to Division Street and turn left heading south. Division Street ends at
County Road 553. Turn left here. Drive about 1/2 a mile to the 3rd. trail
road on the right which is just before Marquette Mountain Ski Resort. This
is on a curve where the speed limit is 55 mph, so be very careful
entering/exiting this trail road. Go about 1 1/2 miles to a wooden bridge.
From the bridge you can go down a trail where you'll see some small falls a
short distance downstream. Walk back up to the road and the bridge.
Drive 'back' about ¼ mile and you'll see a large unmarked trail head to the
right. A steep bank takes you to the top of Unnamed Falls, one of the BEST
in Marquette County! To reach Carp River Falls, cross above or below
Unnamed Falls, and walk 100 feet downstream to where Morgan Creek joins the
Carp River. Follow the Carp River upstream about one mile. There is a rough
trail, and it is rough terrain.
CARP RIVER FALLS IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN.
Tibbets Falls
The falls are a series of drops up to 3-4 feet.
From US 141/M-28 about 2 miles west of Covington go north on Plains Road,
a blacktop road, for about 3 miles to the Sturgeon River. Continue past the
river a short distance until Plains Road takes a sharp right turn. There is
a post at this spot where a trail road continues straight ahead. Take the
trail road for about .2 miles to a fork (you will pass another tail road on
the left). Take the left fork for about .5 mile to what appears to be a
parking area and the end of the road and the beginning of a trail.
Park there and walk down the trail.
The trail is an easy, short walk down the hill from the trail road to the
river and the falls. There are blue diamonds on the trees to mark the trail.
Tioga River, Noname Falls
The Noname Falls are located on the Tioga River about three and a half miles
west of Nestoria off US-41. The waterfall is a series of short drops totaling
around ten foot. There is a roadside park here on US-41 and a short path takes
you on a five minute walk south along the river to the falls.
Upper Falls, Falls River
A 12 foot drop.
Turn west onto PowerDam Road from US-41 about 1.5 miles south of L'Anse and
go about .6 miles to East River Road (you will cross the railroad tracks). T
urn right onto East River Road and go north about 1 mile to where the road
turns right and crosses the railroad tracks. Park there and walk on the
trail road that continues straight ahead (north).
Trail:
About 100 feet down the trail road is the falls to the left and down the
hill. If you Walk farther downstream of the falls and come to
the river there is a small falls there.
Warner Falls
Warner Falls are easily accessible and can be viewed from the highway. The
falls plunge 20 feet into a still pool of water and continues a gently
moving pathway between the widening banks of Warner Creek. Travel
approximately 8 miles west of Marquette on M-28 and turn left at the
blinking yellow onto M-35 heading south. Drive approximately 9 miles to
Palmer and continue on M-35 for about .7 of a mile past the Handy Grocery.
The falls are on the right side of the road. Be sure to park completely off
the road just past the falls and the guard rail.
Yellow Dog Falls
Yellow Dog (Hills) Falls on the Yellow Dog River is approximately 50 feet wide
and has a vertical drop of 30 feet. The distinctive feature is a massive
lone boulder in the center of the falls. Yellow Dog (Hills) Falls are located
on the Yellow Dog River southeast of Big Bay. From Cram's General Store in
Big Bay, travel County Road 550 heading south approximately 1.8 miles to
County Road 510. Turn right on County Road 510 and travel approximately 8.3
miles to the steel bridge across the Yellow Dog River. Follow the hiking
trail on the south side of the river approximately 3/4 of a mile down stream.
Note: Big Pup Creek Falls are down the road (south) another 2 miles.
